Obituary of Eugene P Sheridan

Eugene “GENO” Philip Sheridan passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021 at Peacehealth Hospital in Vancouver, WA. Born in Bronx, NY on July3, 1936, he is preceded in death by his father Philip and mother Charlotte. Geno is survived by his 3children; Philip, Dennis and Kymber; his sister Grace, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Geno was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp (OOH RA!) where he was a welder/machinest stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Always the adventurer, after serving our country he left his childhood home and in 1960 headed west to Downey CA where he met the mother of his 3 children, Barbara, and became a top salesman for Gestetner Corporation. In 1969 he transferred with Gestetner and the family relocated to Milwaukie, OR. In 1974 he and his wife, Barbara, started and operated a successful office s upply store in Coos Bay, OR. In 1976 he felt the pull of country life and the family moved to rural Marcola, OR. where he showed his green thumb and created an amazing garden, raised and released pheasants for the ODFW and really got into two of his passions; hunting and fishing. In 1981 Geno went to work and became a top salesman with National Photocopy and worked there until 1985 making a great group of friends in the process. After leaving Marcola, Geno lived between Eugene and Bend until his health took him to live in Vancouver, WA with his son Philip and daughter-in-law Andrea where they cared for him until his passing. An avid angler and hunter, he spent much of his free time in the woods or on a lake with his family and especially loved the mighty McKenzie River. He loved to share his fishing stories and there were many. So many we would often joke that his stories had stories. Geno was a great friend and would help anyone in need whether he knew you or not. He was a respected member of Alcoholics Anonymous with over 33 years clean and sober and Geno was always willing to share his experience strength and hope with others, lend an ear and loved helping others. Always the charmer with his contagious smile and laughter, he was considered “adorable” by most who met him. Geno was incredibly creative and talented at making things out of wood or metal. In his retirement years, when he wasn’t on the river, he made and sold a great number of custom bird houses and planter boxes near Eugene’s Saturday Market. It wasn’t uncommon for him to jot notes from a stranger for a vision they had and he would then go home and bring it to life. Geno loved the ocean and wanted his ashes to be buried at sea. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when the people who knew & loved him can safely gather.
