Dear Dan and family:
My heart is heavy to learn that Arlene has passed. Arlene was such a dear friend and I have so many good memories of her. We used to live together as we went through college and ended up going to Hawaii together for a fun time. She was always happy and up for a good time. May the warmth of family, friends and wonderful memories bring you comfort.
You all are in my prayers.

Arlene was not only a co-worker, but she became a good friend to me.
I remember what a big help she was when I would go to her with HR issues while I worked at C-TRAN.
I have very fond memories of the rafting trips that Arlene and Dan took me on. They were great times.
When Diane and I married, our friendship continued as couples and we have great memories of those times we got together.
With Deepest Sympathy

My life has forever been touched by the privilege of having known, worked for and became close friends with Arlene. Our friendship deepened after she retired, especially over the last few years. I would visit Arlene and she always welcomed me with a hug and a smile. We shared great conversations, and many fun times together with our spouses. Dan and Arlene graciously opened their home in Bucerias to Cliff and I for relaxing vacations.
Arlene was a woman I admired and looked up to. She was a wonderful mentor to me in my time at C-TRAN. She taught me a lot.
I will miss her very much, but hold my memories of her close to my heart.
Dan, DJ, Brian, Andrew, Rose, Karyn and Luke, I hope you can feel God's loving arms around you at this time giving you strength and peace.
With Love and Friendship,
Diane Price

I learned this morning that Arlene Doern, C-TRAN retiree and 20 year employee whom many of you knew, passed away yesterday. Arlene joined C-TRAN in 1990 as Risk and Personnel Manager. She became Director of Human Resources in 2000. In 2005, as C-TRAN struggled with the loss of state funding, she took on the added responsibility of the Finance Department and then served as Director of those combined administrative services departments until her retirement in 2011. Arlene brought an uncommon energy and focus to her work. Integrity and fiscal responsibility were deep in her DNA. No one protected the public trust and moral compass of this organization more fiercely than Arlene and that was not without cost.
Arlene’s health had been in decline in recent years, but I am nonetheless shocked and saddened by her passing at this time. As it becomes known, we will make available information about arrangements and where expressions of sympathy can be sent.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Dan , DJ, and Brian : I was saddened to hear of Arlenes passing, I really feel for the sadness and pain you guys are feeling ....
I was hoping we would be able to visit and see everyone including Arlene on our trip this spring, I guess it wasnt to be.....
As I thought of the times we spent together, Arlene was unique, intellectually and spiritually ..... I have a memory of her
though that has been a part of me that I will share with you .... In our 3rd year at Bastyr , Brian DJ, Jacqui and I
went down to Vancouver for the weekend ... we got to Dan and Arlenes place in the afternoon. We had a nice supper, we had lots
of laughs ,and after supper we were sitting around talking, with music on in the background ... Arlene and I were talking
about music, and as another song came on, we tried to guess the artist ... I said there was a song that I loved that was in
a movie that I saw, I really liked it, and it had a powerful meaning to it ... I didnt know the name of it, or even the Artist, so I tried
singing some of the song, it was pretty much in a bad way, she laughed pretty hard at my attempt, but she thought she might know what I was
thinking of .... so for the next almost hour we poured through songs, and artists until she said .. “I think I found it!’ .. yes .... it was
John Lennon and the song was IMAGINE ...... so we played the song, and we both ended up with a little leaky eye syndrome ... I wiped my eye
at the end and said .. well now look what you made me do .. we had another good laugh ... To this day whenever I hear that song, I think of Arlene ....
and as I listened to it again this morning, it meant even more. So if you have a little time to play that song for her .... that would be cool.
Love and a big Hugs... Verne

How sad I am today to hear this news about Arlene. I knew her through our mutual sorority Beta Sigma Phi and grew to love this gentle, caring woman. We were all aware of struggles with her health, but this is indeed a shock. I'm so happy I was able to visit with Arlene and Dan several years ago when I brought her a gift from her sister in BSP. We've lost a courageous friend and one who will be remembered always. My thoughts and prayers are with Dan and the family now.
