Obituary of Ronald Eric Syms

Ronald Eric Syms ~ 81 La Center, Washington February 1, 1935 ~ April 19, 2016 Ronald E. Syms was called home by God on Tuesday, April 19th. He was at a community hospice in Washington after suffering a stroke at home eight days prior to his death. Ron was 81. Ron is survived by Jean, his best friend and wife of 55 years, and two daughters; Beth (husband Duane) of Wisconsin, and Wendy (husband Kevin) of Washington, and six grandchildren; Eric, Katie (husband Matt) and Matt of Wisconsin, and Megan (husband Alex), Kyle and Keegan of Washington. Although there are many relatives and cousins, Ron was an only child. Ron is preceded in death by his son-in-law, David, and his parents Leonard and Eleanore Syms. Ron was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and after completing high school, served 4 years in the Marine Corps, as a combat engineer during the Korean conflict. Upon returning home, Ron worked fulltime and earned an Associate’s Degree in Art , and began dating Jean. Although Ron grew up with Jean since grade school, they did not start dating until August of 1957. Ron and Jean were married on June 11th 1960. Ron traveled for many years while working as a salesman of large equipment. (He and Jean also enjoyed traveling for enjoyment.) Ron was a talented artist- painting, wood carving, even some metal arts. He was even involved in a few local plays. He loved fishing and being outdoors. Ron loved people. Above all, Ron valued his faith, his family, and his friends. There will be no formal funeral. A mass will be said in Ron’s memory in the near future at the church he and Jean attended in Washington.
