Vivienne Delta Bailey ~ 97
Vancouver, Washington
August 28, 1918 ~ June 5, 2016
Vivienne Bailey 8/28/1918 to 6/5/2016 born in San Francisco California to Etta and Eldred Deane.
Graduated from U California Berkeley 1940 with a degree in economics at a time many women didnt get degrees espically in economics( she was also accepted at Stanford but chose Berkeley so she could still live at home) Was working in San Francisco at The Emporium as a comparison shopper in 1943 when she met Jason Bailey at the officers club at the Presidio. On their first date she mentioned that with dad named Jay he could have a daughter named Jayne. I always laughed about that as I thought, Were you nuts? On the first date? Well 3 weeks later they were engaged on Easter( She told her parents her engagement ring was an easter present but grandma corrected her say " Vivie Men dont give girls diamond rings for easter. I think its a bit more" 6 months later on August 22 they were married and were married for almost 50 years before Dad died in 1992 to cancer.
After dad returned from WW2 they first lived in San Francisco then Seattle before finally moving to Portland in 1950. After 11 years of marriage their only child a daughter named yes you guessed it Jayne arrived in 1954.
Vivienne was a very involved parent taking Jayne to many activities including swim lessons, french lessons( her parents were from France). school room parent Girl scout leader and they even went to the gym together. She LOVED to entertain and was involved in many groups including 3 bridge groups a bunco and 2 potluck groups. Such a gourmet cook too!! One of her favorite things to do was to travel with her husband Jay and they were lucky enough to have traveled to MANY places throughout the world including S America Europe Asia and Australia/ New Zealand as well as Canada Mexico and the good old USA.
After Jay passed Jayne and she became closer and traveled together as they had opera, Theatre Symphony and Blazer season tickets. . We've had Blazer season tickets for 35 years and she was a HUGE Blazer fan.
She had such a cheerful easy going appreciate personality and was such a love to be around. She LOVED her coffee and her red wine too( former member of Columbia Willamette Enological soceity)
She is survived by her daughter Jayne Grandogs Chloe and Dixon and special family members Kip and Jen Armstrong and children Michael, Ashton, Payden and Ellie ( who shared her August 28th birthday 92 years apart)
