Barry was a great man with an inquiring mind. One time Madhu, a chef from Loews in Scottsdale said to me," You and Barry are just the same; you care about the whole world!" Not that we were caring and compassionate, but that we were curious and wanted to know. He had the greatest imagination and sense of humor. I taught him a lot in his early days of cooking and then over the years he surpassed me and I'd be calling him for advice.
Mainly, I'd just call or e-mail him wondering what his impression was of some person or subject, or food or fad. I still get those urges, kinda like I still would like to call up my Dad.
Difficult for me to express how much I still miss him.
