Geri worked for me as my executive assistant when I served the City Portland as Chief Administrative Officer. By that point in her career she had a deep knowledge and history of the City, and knew how to deal with elected officials, bureau directors, and others. Skills that were crucial in her job. Geri kept me organized and we enjoyed working together as a team. As I read her wonderful life story, I realized that there was much I did not know about Geri, but it affirmed that which I did know. She was a kind, caring, and giving person who accepted adversity without complaint.
My condolences to her family on the loss of such a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.

Geri was a very special person. I first met Geri at Pacific NW Bell in about 1966ish. She worked in Data Entry entering payments. I worked in CMR on the “stub desk”. I balanced the non-automated and unique bills and she data entered them. Our colleagues were lovely people, but our supervisor was very difficult to get along with.
Later we met at the City of Portland and were thrilled to see each other. We both had supervisory roles, but in different bureaus or offices. We always said we learned how to be good supervisors by being supervised by a not-so-good supervisor at the phone company.
Before Geri married she had a Mini Cooper. It had a running problem and my husband was a European car mechanic expert. He fixed her Mini Cooper for her to help her save money. In describing the onerous sound coming from the engine she said it sounded like a cricket in a teapot. My husband said she won the prize for creative descriptions of a car problem. ♥️♥️♥️
Geri was respected by everyone and was kind to everyone she ever met.

Geri contributed so much to the City and to the people she worked with. Some of us who saw her daughters grow up recall the depth and breadth of knowledge she had of City and City Council operations over the years. She was a subject matter expert in preparing City legislation and contracts, and shared her knowledge with so many people. She was a key advisor to commissioners and directors, and was absolutely unflappable in any deadline or emergency. Geri had a servant's heart in public service. Her family has a lot to be proud of and she is missed.
