Obituary of Peter Thomas Blohm
PETER THOMAS “PETE” BLOHM
January 12, 1958 – January 22, 2018
Peter Thomas “Pete” Blohm passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018 at the age of 60 with family by his side. Pete was born January 12, 1958 in Vancouver, WA to parents Thomas and Alice Blohm, who preceded him in death. He lived in the Vancouver area his entire life. He attended Evergreen High School through 1975 and then started his career at Vancouver Steel Foundry. His love of the water was reflected in his later career choices as a boilermaker at Dillingham Ship Repair with his stepfather, Jim, and then at Tidewater Bargelines where he retired in 2013 after 25 years.
Pete enjoyed making life-long friends with neighbors and those he worked with. He loved spending time hanging out at the beach, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, golfing, dogs, watching football and NASCAR, visiting with friends and family, and sharing his love of good cooking. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and took joy in all of their activities. He was a kind, generous, thoughtful, hard-working and loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather.
Pete is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Carol Blohm; their two children, Michael Blohm and Keleen (Josh) Endres; stepfather, Jim (Lynn) Mattix; his four siblings, Cheryl (Jerry) Brough, Keleen Bridgman, Vance (Tuesday) Mattix, and Brent (Mary) Mattix; and his three grandchildren, Justin, Ellie and Cheyenne. He also leaves behind a vast network of treasured extended family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
The family is grateful for the exceptional care provided for Pete in the final weeks of his life by his caregivers at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Warehouse 23 (formerly the Red Lion Inn at the Quay), 100 Columbia Street, Vancouver, WA 98660. A graveside service will take place at Brush Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, contributions may be made in Pete’s name to Fences for Fido or Long Beach Humane Society.
