Janet Shirley (Meyer) Tanner
August 9, 1929 ~ March 25, 2018
Janet Shirley (Meyer) Tanner died peacefully on March 25 at the age of 88. Janet was born in Chicago, IL to Walter and Hattie Meyer. She moved to Cincinnati, OH in 1935. She met the love of her life, James (Jim) Tanner in August, 1948 and they were married on September 2, 1949.
In 1953 they had their first child, a daughter, named Judith Diane. In 1955 they had a son named Jeffrey Christopher. In 1958 they moved to Southern California. Janet worked as an account payable supervisor for over 25 years. During their life together they travelled extensively throughout the United States and visited over 90 countries.
In their retirement they were Docents at the Los Angeles Zoo and Elder Hostel coordinators. Janet also did volunteer work at the Simi Valley Cultural Center, the South Bay Civic Light Opera, the El Portal Theater and was a docent at the Simi Valley Courthouse as well as a raptor rehabilitator
Janet lost Jim in August, 2008 and then moved to Vancouver, WA in April 2015 to be closer to family.
Janet is survived by her daughter and son, 5 Grandchildren (Jarrod, Joshua, Julia, Justin and Jon) and 3 Great Grandchildren (Emerson, Luke and Quinton).
