Joyce Ione (Carter) Wiese, 86, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018 after a short battle with ovarian cancer. Joyce was born on November 26th, 1931 in Wadena, Minnesota to Edward Carter and Lucile Kinnen. When Joyce was 13, her family moved to Vancouver, Washington, where she attended Shumway Junior High. She graduated from Vancouver High School in 1949.Joyce met her husband, William “Bill” Wiese through her best friend, Margaret Wiese (Baxter ). They married on August 4th, 1951, and after living in both Medford, and Baker City Oregon, settled in Vancouver and raised a family. Joyce was a loving, supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to attend sporting events, plays, and honor ceremonies of her family. Some of Joyce’s hobbies included sewing, reading, attending musicals and seeing movies weekly in the theaters. In later years, she traveled with her husband and sister –in-law (Margaret) yearly to Branson, Missouri and Basin, Montana. She was a TOPS club member for over thirty years.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Bill, their children, Joseph(Mary) Wiese, Margaret (Erich) Cranor, Frances (Michael) Trimble, Teresa (Patrick) Hinthorn, Mary (Rudy) Lies, James(Lesley) Wiese, Katherine (Julio) Wiese, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, William “Bill” Jr., and her siblings, Robert, Dona Jean and Beverly.
A memorial mass will be held for Joyce on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 4723 NW Franklin Street, Vancouver, Washington, 98663. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 AM. Lunch reception will follow in the parish gym. In the spirit of Joyce, all those attending are encouraged to wear yellow, her favorite color, Yellow
