Obituary of Stephen H. Guild
Stephen H. Guild
Battle Ground, Washington
August 24, 1948 ~ March 4, 2019
Stephen H. Guild, 70, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2019. He was born August 24, 1948 in Palo
Alto, CA, the son of James Russel Guild, Jr. and Wanda Pahl.
Steve graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette, CA in 1967. Following graduation he entered
the naval reserve and served on the Bon Homme Richard from 1969-1970. After serving, he married
Lynn Maggiora of Orinda, CA. They were together almost 50 years. They ended up settling in Battle
Ground, WA where they raised their children and grandchildren.
Steve worked for Pacific Telephone in California and ultimately retired from Century Link in Portland
after 30 years. He loved the water and had many boats for fishing and water sports. After retiring, he
became interested in Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He belonged to the Vancouver HOG Chapter and
loved “riding to eat!” His ultimate road trip was across the USA on his Harley Ultra Classic with Lynn on
the back. Patriot Guard Riders was another passion of his. Remembering how he and his fellow vets
were treated after returning from Vietnam, he didn’t want to see the ridicule for young service people
returning home as his peer group was treated. He was a ride captain who organized the escort of many
deceased soldiers from Portland International Airport to the mortuaries. Steve loved his country!
He was predeceased by his father. Surviving family members include his wife, Lynn; his son James
(Danya), daughter Kara Cerdena (Kacey), daughter Nikki Kernutt (Jon), and 11 grandchildren; Mother
Wanda Pahl Hayes, brother Pahl Goff and sister Deborah Ansbaugh (Phil); also several nieces and
nephews.
There will be no funeral services. Donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the HOPE Support Group
