Obituary of Charles Robert Meize
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On February 16, 2020 Charles Robert Meize, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 80.
Bob was born April 22, 1939 in Springfield, Oregon to Paul and Alma “Billie” Meize. In 1943 the family moved to the Yale Valley, near Cougar so that Paul could continue logging. Bob had a sister, Joan, born in 1946. As a child and teenager Bob was always hunting and fishing, exploring the Ape Caves and doing chores. In 1957 he graduated from Woodland High School and began working in the woods with his dad. In 1961 he was drafted into the Army and traveled to France and Germany as a signal supply clerk. He was honorably discharged in 1963 and returned to Cougar to continue working in the woods. In 1966 he married and had 2 children, Robert and Joni. In 1973 Bob divorced, and in 1976 he met Joy, and became a parent to 5 additional children.
In 1977-78 he owned and operated the Cougar Service Station but through the 1980’s Bob was a heavy equipment operator, making roads throughout the Northwest and loading timber. In 1991 Bob and Joy traveled to Alaska where Bob continued to work in the woods, making roads and clearing timber. In 1997 they returned to Cougar and Bob continued with operating heavy equipment with the Operators/Engineers Union. Throughout all of the work Bob always found time to hunt and fish and just be outdoors. He was an avid rock hound, bringing home “treasures” from his outdoor trips. In 2007 Bob retired and began fishing every chance he could. He fished in Arizona and throughout the Northwest. He enjoyed being a grandparent and loved his pets.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alma, and sister Joan. Bob is survived by his wife Joy, children Robert (Ruth Ann), Joni, step-children Bobby, Joy, Richard, Jack (Heidi) and Tina (Jeff), 18 grand children and 19 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the future. Flowers and donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
