Obituary of John D. Grems

John D. Grems Vancouver, Washington September 9, 1943 ~ December 26, 2020 John Douglas Grems, 77, passed away on 12/26/2020 at his home in Vancouver, WA. John was born on 9/9/1943 in Seaside, OR to Viola (Dunker) and Colis R. “Bud” Grems. He grew up and went to school in Klamath Falls, OR and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1961. In 1962, he moved to Vancouver, WA and worked with his father at Permalume Plastics manufacturing roof coating. John proudly served in the United States Navy for 6 years during the Vietnam War. He entered into the Navy in March of 1964 and was on active duty until December of 1967. He remained in the Reserves until March of 1970. Upon release from the Navy he went back to work with his father and then went on the run the business after his father retired in 1976 until 1994 when he retired and closed the business. John was the ultimate family man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and bowling with his family and friends. He was also an avid sports fan, supporting his favorite local teams, the Seattle Seahawks and the Portland Trail Blazers by rarely ever missing a game. He is survived by Ellen, his wife of 55 years. As well as his 2 children, John D. Grems Jr. and his wife Debbie (Brickly), his daughter Michelle (Grems) Strand and her husband Matt Strand, his 2 grandchildren John J. Grems and his wife Monica Misho- Grems, and his granddaughter Korin Grems, 3 great grandchildren (Peyton, Lilli, and Makayla), along with 3 nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Viola and Colis R. “Bud” Grems, and his sisters, Joyce E. Grems and Linda M (Grems) Lux. He will be greatly missed, and his memory forever cherished by his family and loved ones.
