Dear Penny and Family,
As I write from Saudi Arabia, let me say that whenever I think of Bruce, I smile.
I first met Bruce through a mutual friend at Grace Community Church in Los Angeles where we were both spiritually mentored by one of the two greatest youth pastors I have ever known, Tim Jack, who, along with his wife, Linda, is currently managing the Rainbow Lodge Retreat Center in North Bend, WA. One reason Bruce and I connected is because of similar personalities and common interests. I also like Heinlein. This commonality also meant certain practical jokes being played on each other. Sorry Penny, you'll have to ask Bruce about those when you meet him again and where he won't be able to feign ignorance or forgetfulness because the eyes of the Lord will, literally, be upon him. Such a confession will do him good.
I was honored to be a groomsman in Bruce's wedding in Los Angeles and was able to return the favor when Kathleen and I got married in Oregon in 1992. And, yes, Bruce did jump on a trampoline in his tuxedo during our wedding reception. Then again, so did I. The point is that he brought joy to those around him with his infectious personality and zeal for life. And there was no topic we could not discuss because of how well read he was.
As we all celebrate in Bruce's passing into the arms of our loving Heavenly Father and Lord and grieve in our personal and collective loss, I am reminded of a saying. "A pain which is shared is divided, and a joy which is shared is multiplied." We can do both at the same time.
I will see you soon, my dear brother in Christ.

Jesus went before us and was not afraid, and we know he is there waiting for his loved one to come home. Bruce is in his arms and smile again. We will miss his smile, his laugh, and his joy for God.
The family knew him best, God knows all, but this one thing I do know, He was a man with a loving heart for all. Will be missed!

♡♡♡ Bruce you are so loved on this fragile earth, but how much more you are loved by the Father! Our lives were the better for knowing you. I will never forget your kindness during the great storm of November 2006, when I had just finished up my training at MacLaren YCF in Woodburn only to find the roads were shut down to Tillamook. I think Gary called you for help and I came through your neck of the woods to go I-5 to Kelso. You sent me home with a generator in the back of our Prius because power was out in Tillamook. You didn't want me to leave because it was snowing cats and dogs, but I assured you I cut my teeth driving in Alaska in a snowstorm at 16. You, very concerned, reluctantly let me go. We had a great time with FX Trainer getting to know you and your mom. We were so privileged to film and photograph your's and Penny's lovely wedding. I know Gary and I will see you again my friend. But...you are missed my friend! ♡♡♡

We are all so very sorry for the stupidly early departure from this earth of our club member Bruce. He and Penny were the very first "outsiders" to want to build a dachshund club in SW WA. Bruce was always ready to help. He was a sociable guy and a great addition to our club. He was loyal, invested and generous. We enjoyed your company very much, Bruce. We will miss you. Penny, we hope you will stay on board.

Bruce, You will be missed my friend. I still can hear your laugh. I always enjoyed our conversations and all the laughs we shared. I will always remember your love for your family, Children, dogs, bikes, friends and your wife Penny. I smile at how we had those many political conversations, we didn't see eye to eye on some issues but we sure respected each others view. I will miss you being part of our dog club. You sure loved your dogs. You always sparked up when you share your stories of what your dogs would do, and their achievements they had with our club. Rest with the lord my friend, I am still in shock at how fast you left.
Penny, I am so sorry for the loss of your Husband Bruce. I know you will have strength to heal through God, Family and Friends. I am always here too help if you need it. You and your family are in my prayers.
Dan.
